The hiring process, like most things in life, is not typically a point A to point B process. Quite often, the decision to hire or not hire, may not follow simple logic.
The reasons for this vary tremendously: The hiring authority perceives a candidate to be over-qualified and may not be satisfied over the long-term. Some firms tend to over-rely on a variety of tests (academic and/or psychological) to screen candidates. This is a subject open for considerable discussion both pro and con, but top people have been passed over following test “analysis”. (Note: it also depends when you administer the tests and how the information is used. And here is one of the most common: When a hiring authority believes a candidate presents a threat to their own career progression.
