Chief Lending Officer Succession Placement

An existing client, a Michigan-based credit union, engaged us to conduct a search for a new Chief Lending Officer, following the planned retirement of a long-tenured executive. This transition carried added significance, as our firm had originally placed the retiring CLO more than ten years prior. We also partnered closely with the credit union’s Head of Human Resources, another leader we had successfully placed, ensuring strong alignment, trust, and collaboration throughout the process.

Geography quickly emerged as the primary challenge, as there was a limited pool of qualified executives willing to relocate to Michigan, further tightening an already competitive market. We executed a national, targeted search, evaluating 15 qualified candidates with the technical depth and leadership experience required for the role. One candidate stood out due to a long-standing relationship with our firm. We had known him for many years and had previously explored placement opportunities together, staying connected as his career evolved.

At the time of this search, the opportunity aligned perfectly. Based in Oklahoma, the candidate was personally and professionally ready for relocation and open to a move to Michigan. His lending expertise, leadership style, and values aligned seamlessly with the credit union’s culture and long-term vision.
